Zilker Trail of Lights – Austin Texas

Posted by jenna wakeley On December - 18 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Every year around Christmas time Zilker park turns into the closest thing we get to a winter wonderland here in central Texas.  Myself, I’ve never been big on Christmas but I d *love* Christmas lights. I’m totally one of those fools that keeps my lights up generally year round (don’t judge me ha.)

Well, and this being Austin, we even do Christmas decorations in a “weird” way…

For example…the holiday armadillos

and this is Texas so..a cactus with a cowboy hat..definitely

A lizard type thing sleeping on a fire place, why not I say?

Everyone knows the cow jumped over the moon on Christmas Eve (and ran away with the spoon on new years after a drunken bender?)

Only in Austin will there be a holiday stage with a Zuess like creature holding a spinning disco ball

To be fair, there were actually some decorations that had something to do with the holiday :)

In all reality and interestingly odd decorations, this is called the Zilker Tree festival for a reason.  The rest of the decorations are a bit odd but even if none of the other ornaments were there, if nothing else was there at all, people would still come (I know I would) just to spin around under the enormous Zilker tree of lights.

Walk under it, to the center and look up

Then grab a friend and spin around

Look up while you spin and watch the swirling lights as they dance around you in true Austin holiday style
