So I admit I’ve definitely been on a park kick lately, but the weather’s been so gorgeous it’s impossible to resist! The latest venture was to Mckinney Falls Park in south east Austin.  Mckinney falls park began in 1970 from a private donation of land and is named after Thomas Mckinney, one of the original settlers of Austin back in 1850.

My friend Ruben thinks this cloud looks like a guitar, I think loch ness monster… what do you think?

Down to the falls area. There are upper falls and lower falls, you can swim in the lower but I happen to be a fan of the upper.

Bull Creek in Austin is absolutely one of my favorite parks in Austin hands down. It’s small but incredibly charming. I wish it were closer to my apartment but even the drive there was nice, winding through the cut out rock walls and the beginnings of hill country.

Everything about this park has a lazy Texas sort of charm.

Though Bull Creek park is a popular spot with dogs (since it’s an off leash park,) it’s also a popular spot with sport rock climbers and I can see why.

Personally, my favorite part of the park (since we’ve finally gotten a fair bit of rain) are the fun waterfalls.

It looked so inviting I could not resist taking off my shoes…

…and going for a walk (never mind my lilly white legs and half painted toe nails ha)

I love Texas, especially the live oak trees: all gnarled and ancient looking.

Bull Creek Park, definitely climbing my charts as one of my favorite places in Austin.

The weather in Austin, Texas in October is genuinely beautiful. We’ve handled a very long very hot summer and now the temperature is about 75 degrees with plenty of Sunshine to spare.  So it’s the perfect day to head out to Zilker Park and botanical garden to enjoy a nice walk through the lovely and winding passageways.

Wherever you walk in Zilker, just remember to stay on the path!

Zilker plays homage to some very interesting parts of Austin history.  Below is the infamous Butler window.

Which according to the sign was salvaged from the Bulter house built in 1887. My favorite part is that apparently none of the rooms in the Bulter house were square or rectangle.

You never quite now what you may find around the next bend, even a replica woodsmith shop.

Even though I was at Zilker when many of the flowers aren’t in bloom, there was still a few late bloomers!
